I’m a pretty huge soccer fan, and my favorite player in the history of the sport is Johann Cruyff. Not only was he exceptional on the field, but he was also rebel. He pushed the envelope tactically, and also understood, even in the ‘60s and ‘70s, the role star athletes play in impacting culture beyond sport. He was a leader and an advocate for social justice and the “little guy.” There is a quote attributed to Cruyff that I love and it has inspired me, and the name of this project:

It's like everything in football—and life. You need to look, you need to think, you need to move, you need to find space, you need to help others. It's very simple in the end.

And to be a bit figurative about it, that’s what I want for the sports industry. I want us to look, and see the world around us more clearly. I want us to think about our impact. And I want us to move more quickly on change that can make sports more inclusive and compassionate in the end.
